Dr. Muneo Kaigo is Professor of Communication and Media in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. He is teaching in the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences and the College of Comparative Culture at the University of Tsukuba. Dr. Kaigo is currently the Associate Dean of the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Chair for the Masters’ and Doctoral Program of International and Advanced Japanese Studies, Director for the Institute for Comparative Research in Human and Social Sciences, and Director of the European Area for the University of Tsukuba Office of Global Initiatives (Offices in Bonn, Bordeaux and Grenoble). Dr. Kaigo is also the country representative of Japan for the Asian Media Information and Communication Centre. He is co-researcher on a project dealing with risk communication and safety concerns of nuclear energy and technology. Dr. Kaigo previously led a joint research project on social media uses among local municipalities in Japan and is also editor of Social Media and Civil Society in Japan by Palgrave Macmillan.
