Mike Navallo is a multi-platform journalist for ABS-CBN News based in Manila. He also co-anchors the 7am edition of the ANC Rundown newscast.
Among the stories he covered for ABS-CBN News: the arrests of Duterte critics senators Leila de Lima and Antonio Trillanes IV, the ouster of Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, the Rohingya refugee crisis in Bangladesh and the 2017 United Nations General Assembly in New York as a UN Reham al-Farra fellow.
He also covered President Duterte’s War on Drugs, producing stories on drug raids and the deaths of drug suspects before moving on to do special reports on the Philippines’ drug policy. He was part of the team that won the Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) 2017 Award for Human Rights Reporting for the online series, War on Drugs: The Unheard Voices.
As Justice beat reporter, he covered the sedition raps against key opposition figures uncovering the involvement of the Office of the Solicitor General, the conviction of some Ampatuans in the Maguindanao massacre murder cases, the junking of the election protest against Vice President Leni Robredo, the ABS-CBN shutdown, Maria Ressa’s conviction for cyberlibel, the petitions challenging the constitutionality of the Anti-Terrorism Act and the International Criminal Court Prosecutor’s probe on President Duterte’s war on drugs.
Prior to joining ABS-CBN News in 2015, he worked as a litigator for SyCip Law and as research consultant for Amnesty International’s research on police torture.
He also taught law on mass media at the University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication.
