Christoph Plate is Director of the Media Programme Sub-Sahara Africa of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, based in Johannesburg, South Africa. In the 1990s he worked as contributing Africa Correspondent for the German news magazine Der Spiegel, based in Nairobi, Kenya. Thereafter he covered the Middle East for ten years as editor and reporter for the Sunday edition of Neue Zuercher Zeitung in Switzerland.
Before joining the Foundation, Plate was the Deputy Editor-in-chief of Schwaebische Zeitung, a big regional newspaper in South-western Germany.
The Media Programme brings together stakeholders in the media industry on issues such as the credibility crisis or business models, the role of local media and Public Service Broadcasters. And – at the crossroads of media and political communication – the team conducts conferences for political speech writers.
